Vocabulary of the Greek NT

For the literal meaning ";playacting"; cf M. Anton. Xi. I where ὑποκρίσεως is placed between ὀρχήσεως and τῶν τοιούτων. The word is found in the LXX (2 Maccabees 6:25) and the NT only in its metaph. sense : cf. Pss. Song of Solomon 4:7 ἐξάραι ὁ θεὸς τοὺς ἐν ὑποκρίσει ζῶντας μετὰ ὁσίων, ";let God destroy them that live in hypocrisy in the company of the saints"; (Ryle and James).
