Psalms 77

   |

Comfort in Trouble from Recalling God's Mighty Deeds.

To the Chief Musician; according to Jeduthun +[one of David's three chief musicians, founder of an official musical family+]. A Psalm of Asaph.

1 My voice rises to God, and I will (C1)cry aloud;
My voice rises to God, and He will hear me.

2 In the (C1)day of my trouble I desperately sought the Lord;
(C2)In the night my (C3)hand was (F1)stretched out in prayer without weariness;
My soul (C4)refused to be comforted.

3 I remember God; then I am (C1)disquieted and I groan;
I (C2)sigh in prayer, and (C3)my spirit grows faint. Selah.

4 You have held my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I (C1)cannot speak.

5 I have considered the ancient (C1)days,
The years of prosperity of long, long ago.

6 I will remember my (C1)song in the night;
I (C2)will meditate with my heart,
And my spirit searches:

7 Will the Lord (C1)reject forever?
And will He (C2)never be favorable again?

8 Has His (C1)lovingkindness ceased forever?
Have His (C2)promises ended for all time?

9 Has God (C1)forgotten to be gracious?
Or has He in anger withdrawn His (C2)compassion? Selah.

10 And I said, "(C1)This is my grief,
That the (C2)right hand of the Most High has changed and His lovingkindness is withheld."

11 I will solemnly remember the (C1)deeds of the LORD;
Yes, I will wholeheartedly (C1)remember Your wonders of old.

12 I will (C1)meditate on all Your works
And thoughtfully consider all Your great and wondrous deeds.

13 Your way, O God, is (C1)holy far from sin and guilt.
(C2)What god is great like our God?

14 You are the awesome (C1)God who works powerful wonders;
You have (C2)demonstrated Your power among the people.

15 You have with Your great arm (C1)redeemed Your people,
The sons of Jacob and (C2)Joseph. Selah.

16 The (C1)waters of the Red Sea saw You, O God;
The waters saw You, they were in anguish;
The deeps also trembled.

17 The (C1)clouds poured down water;
The skies (C2)sent out a sound of rumbling thunder;
Your (C3)arrows (lightning) flashed here and there.

18 The (C1)voice of Your thunder was in the (F1)whirlwind;
The (C2)lightnings illumined the world;
The (C3)earth trembled and shook.

19 Your (C1)way of escape for Your people was through the sea,
And Your paths through the great waters,
And Your footprints were not traceable.

20 You (C1)led Your people like a flock
By the hand of (C2)Moses and Aaron to the promised goal.
