Introduction

  1. Introduction
    READ: Philippians 2:5-11
    1. The gospel of Luke brings us a vivid and compassionate look at the life of our Savior, Jesus. It is a book that will allow us to consider – think on and contemplate deeply – the life and ministry of Jesus, the Son of God!
    2. The gospel of Luke was perhaps written in detail to bring out both the humanity and truth of the Son of God.
    3. The theme of the gospel of Luke is found in chapter 19, verse 10…“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
    4. Because of our sin…The Son of God, our Savior, came to the earth to save us from our sins by dying in our place and then rising up from the dead 3 days later to give us the hope of Heaven. Why? Because He loves us so much He doesn’t want to see anyone die and go to Hell.
    5. Last time, we saw the birth of John the Baptist who came in the spirit and power of Elijah and prophesies that had been fulfilled through his birth…
    6. This week we look at the birth of Jesus, the Christ, the Messiah, who came to save the world from their sins.

Verses 1-7

  1. The Birth of Jesus
Luk 2:1-7 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
    1. We have several prophecies fulfilled here in these few verses…the first is that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem…Mic 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting."
    2. We see that the Messiah would come from the tribe of JudahGen 49:10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
    3. And…that Jesus would come from the family of David: Jer 23:5-6 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. 6 In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
    4. The question we find for ourselves in verse 7 comes from the statement: “There was no room for them in the Inn”.
    5. Is there room for Jesus in our “Inn” – in our hearts… in our lives? Are we so prideful or so busy or so selfish that there is no room in our lives for Jesus?

Verses 8-14

  1. Glory to God!
Luk 2:8-14 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
    1. Here we find the first people that the Angel tells of the birth of the Messiah are shepherds… who were considered the lowest of the low of jobs to have in the first century…second only to the Jewish tax collectors who were considered traitors.
    2. What does this say to us? That no matter where we are in society’s social structure, God is still interested in us, still loves us and still wants to save us!
    3. A small note on apologetics – there are many people that say that Jesus could not have been born on December 25th because the shepherds wouldn’t be out in that type of weather…but, I know of Calvary Chapel pastors who have been to Jerusalem for Christmas who have personally seen the shepherds herding their sheep during this season. So…that idea is false.
    4. Look at verse 10-11…the Angel is bringing good tidings of Great Joy, for there is born unto you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord: à the Joy is that salvation has come to all mankind… (Remember Mat 1 ??)
      1. Mat 1:20-21 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
    5. The question that occurred to me here is: “Do we still see our salvation as the source of our greatest joy?” …or, is it, “I’m saved, please pass the ketchup”.
    6. Finally, from this passage, I’d like us to consider verse 14 for a moment…
      1. Luk 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
    7. Think about the Angel’s perspective…the proclamation is that of speaking for God to men and he says, “…on earth peace, goodwill toward men”.
    8. This is saying that now, through Jesus, we can find peace with God…
      1. Rom 5:1-2 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
    9. And also, there is extended towards man -- “GOODWILL”. The will of God being good towards men…what is the best good that we can experience? Salvation!!
      1. Rom 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
      2. Joh 3:16-18 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
      3. Rom 5:5-9 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

Verses 15-21

  1. Bold Witnesses
Luk 2:15-21 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. 21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
    1. Look at verse 17 – when they had seen Jesus, they made widely known that which was told them concerning the child… (Jim’s paraphrase) “They told everyone they encountered about Jesus!”
    2. When we truly see Jesus for who He is…we can’t help but tell others about Him, about His love, about His forgiveness, and about the hope we now have!
    3. I think of what Jesus said to the demoniac in Mark 5…
    4. Mar 5:18-20 And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. 19 However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, "Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you." 20 And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled.
    5. This should be how our lives look…boldly telling everyone we meet about Jesus!
  2. Conclusion
    1. Eph 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Verses 22-35

  1. Introduction
    READ: Luke 2:21-24
    1. We have been looking at the birth of Jesus – last week we saw that the Angel proclaimed peace, good will toward men as the fruit of the Messiah being born.
    2. God’s heart is that no one should perish…thus He sent His Son in the form of a baby to save us from the consequences of our sin. As we read through the gospel of Luke, we will find it bringing out both the humanity and deity of the Son of God.
    3. The theme of the gospel of Luke and the heart of the Father is found in chapter 19, verse 10…“For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
    4. This week we’ll continue looking at the early years of Jesus’ life and ask God to reveal more of Himself to us through His Holy Spirit…
  2. Simeon
Luk 2:25-35 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, 31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. 33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. 34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
    1. Look at Simeon’s character… he was “JUST” (which means he walked in holiness and righteousness—i.e. he walked in a right relationship with God and with men).
    2. It also says that the Holy Ghost was upon him… “epi” :: anointing him – not common pre-Ascension of Jesus. He help a special place in God’s eyes.
    3. God saw fit to promise him that he could see the Messiah before he died…what a privileged and awesome promise!
    4. We are privileged because we are called the children of God, we have the Holy Spirit’s anointing anytime we ask and we have a full view of the Messiah’s ministry and the promise of the rapture and millennial reign! In many ways… we have “MORE” than Simeon… do we see our privileged position?
    5. Now look at what Simeon says: v.32 tells us that Jesus came to both Jews and gentiles! V. 34 tells us that Jesus, the Messiah, will be the cause of the fall and rising of many in Israel… meaning, those who humble themselves in the sight of the Lord will be lifted up…
      1. 1Pe 5:5-7 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
      2. Jas 4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
    6. V. 35 also tells us that the thoughts of many will be revealed…externally with regards to faith in Jesus or rejection and following the world.
    7. Internally, we know that Jesus is the incarnation of the Word of God (John 1:1) and that the Word is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart: (Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.)

Verses 36-38

  1. Anna
Luk 2:36-38 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
    1. Anna was an elderly lady about 106-ish years old…based upon marriage at around 15, married for 7 years, and widowed for 84 years.
    2. She appears to be a remarkable lady – as she is called a prophetess and served God with fastings and prayers night and day…her entire life was a living sacrifice to God. >> She is and example of what we ought to be.
      1. Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
    3. Look at what she did…she gave thanks similarly to Simeon and then she told all who looked for redemption of Jesus!
    4. Looking for Redemption means all those who KNEW they needed more than they had – looking to the Messiah as prophesied yet ignorant of His birth. These would equate to all those today who are looking for Salvation. We must tell people of the free gift and of their need to be saved.
    5. The hope is that many will be saved before it is too late – Rom 10 reminds us that ALL who call upon the Lord Jesus will be saved…
    6. Rom 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Verses 39-40

  1. The Grace of God
Luk 2:39-40 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
    1. He was a child…like many other children – but we know nothing else about His childhood other than He grew and grew strong in the Holy Spirit, He grew in the wisdom from God and the grace of God was upon Him.
    2. It would be dangerous to assume anything about His childhood – terrible two’s, or anything else. Biblically, we know He was tempted at all points yet without sin…and that’s all we know!
    3. What can we infer from this? That even as Jesus grew in His walk in the Holy Spirit, even as He grew in wisdom and grace…so should we!
    4. 2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
    5. Growth only comes through submission – only as we present ourselves as a living sacrifice will God do great things in us and through us.
    6. Php 2:12-13 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
    7. Submission and sacrifice only come as we see and respond to the goodness of God…which only comes as we abide with Christ and walk in the Spirit and read the Word of God.
    8. Faith comes through the Word – victory over our flesh only comes through the power of the Holy Spirit – we will see the Lord when our hearts are pure and loyal towards Him.
    9. Where are we in our walk? Are we growing in Grace as Peter exhorted? Are we a living sacrifice – a willing slave of Jesus Christ? What does our life and light shine forth to the lost world?
    10. What does our heart desire and look like when no one is around? God desires that we are the same person all the time.
  2. Conclusion
2Pe 1:3-11 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Verses 41-45

  1. Introduction
    READ: Luke 2:39-40
    4. This week we’ll look at a specific point in time when Jesus was 12 years old and traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover.
  2. Lost “Him”
Luk 2:41-42 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
    1. So, here is the lamb who was slain before the foundation of the world attending the Passover.
    2. This would be a time when He would see the lamb have his throat cut, the blood collected and poured out at the altar, the entrails taken and burned and the body of the lamb given back for the Passover meal – all according to the LAW…
    3. Heb 10:1, 4, 10, 14 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. 9 then He (Jesus) said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
    4. Looking at this from the parental role…parents are to lead their children in the ways of the Lord – they are to lead by example…that’s what leaders do!
    5. Mary and Joseph showed their son that following God, doing what He tells them, attending feasts and so on are vital to our spiritual welfare!
    6. What example are we providing for our children or grandchildren? Are we showing them, through our lifestyle and through our choices and priorities that Jesus is and should be our highest priority? Remember, more is caught than taught – parenting should never be a “Do as I say, not as I do” situation.
    7. Deu 6:4-7, 12-14 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 12 (and) then beware, lest you forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 13 You shall fear the LORD your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name. 14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you
    8. V. 42 also tells us that Jesus is 12 years old…
    9. This is the age when boys were turned over to the Lord…this turning over later became the Jewish tradition of Bar-Mitzvah – bar means “son of”; mitzvah means “the Law”. Thus, at this age boys in Israel left their father’s Spiritual oversight and were responsible to the Lord as a “Son of the Law”.
    10. Luk 2:43 When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; 44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day's journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.
    11. This is a simple oversight on Mary and Joseph’s part…culturally, the people travelled in groups of as many as 100 people for protection against bandits; generally the children were in the middle of the group and played amongst themselves as they moved from place to place. The group would consist of family members (aunts and uncles) and friends and neighbors – a seemingly very safe place to be.
    12. One of the reasons that Mary and Joseph would not have thought much about this during the travel is because we can presume that Jesus was VERY trustworthy – He is, after all, the Son of God!
    13. But, when they discovered He was missing (probably after they both had a major cow), they headed back to try to find Him.
    14. What babysitters…they lost God’s Son! Uh-oh!! :o)

Verses 46-50

  1. Found “Him”
Luk 2:46-47 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
    1. So after 3 days…probably 3 days of frantic searching! They found Jesus in the Temple (the house of God!) – why there?
    2. (As a side thought…) Psa 122:1 I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD."
    3. Do we say this? Are we drawn here to worship and honor God, remember the sacrifice of Jesus and fellowship with other believers?
    4. Heb 10:19-25 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
    5. Do we do this? Are we glad we get to go to church – frankly, I think we should all be here every time we have a service, prayer meeting or discipleship breakfast! Also, do we invite others with the same enthusiasm that we are excited to go to church?
    6. BUT, If not, have we lost sight of Jesus as well?
    7. Jesus was in the Temple speaking with probably some of the greatest Jewish minds of the era. It was a time when Hillel and Shammai were popular and in contention with each other – conservative Judiasm vs. Liberal thought. Gammaliel was the most notable scholar of the time (Paul had studied under him) as well as Nicodemus. Were they all there with Jesus? We don’t know, but its fun to speculate as it has no bearing on our theology or salvation.
    8. Luk 2:48-50 So when they (meaning Mary and Joseph) saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously." 49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?" 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.
    9. This is the last time that Joseph is mentioned in the Bible…and Jesus has now turned from his (little ‘f’ – father) to His (big ‘F’ – Father, meaning God) in His speech.
    10. His response to his parents is classic ---“Why did you seek me, didn’t you know I’d be about my Father’s business? -- Jesus’ focus is on what His Heavenly Father desires for Him and not on what the world would need or desire.
    11. This begs the question to us… “Are we about our Father’s business?”
      1. Mat 6:33a But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, (We are to seek out the activities of the Kingdom as our first priority of life)
      2. 1Co 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. (We no longer belong to ourselves and there see Matt 6:33)
      3. 2Co 5:20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. (We are to represent Jesus to the world in example and lifestyle – see Matt 6:33 & 1Cor 6:19-20)
      4. Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Everything we do should be focused on glorifying God – again, see Matt 6:33 & 1Cor 6:19-20 & 2Cor 5:20)
    12. But…they didn’t understand – sometimes the things that God speaks to us we must receive by faith without understanding. His ways are not our ways! Is 40 – can we give counsel to God?
    13. Faith requires us to obey without seeing or understanding. Reading the Word will sometimes not be with clarity now…but we read knowing that God may bring understanding later.

Verses 51-52

  1. What Now?
Luk 2:51-52 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
    1. It tells us that Jesus was subject to His parents…as an example to all of us!
      1. Submission means to rank ourselves below another – it is a positional concept not a valuation of worth.
      2. Eph 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
      3. Eph 5:17, 21 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
      4. Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
    2. V. 52 says that Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men.
    3. We should be increasing as well – we should be increasing in intimacy with Jesus, in wisdom that comes from the Word of God, in grace as we walk in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit
    4. …our lives should be a living epistle – a living love letter to the world!
  2. Conclusion
    1. In concluding…we must ask ourselves the question: “Have we lost sight of Jesus?”
    2. Rev 2:2-5 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. 5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works (or return);
    3. If this is you: Jesus didn’t go anywhere…you did! Remember, repent and return to Jesus!
