Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. Psalms 51:2. Divine answer. The blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God cleanseth us from all sins. 1 John 1:6.

Under the ceremonial law all things were purged with blood, and without shedding of blood there was no remission. Thus it is impossible that any one sin, even the least sinful motion, should be taken away except by the blood of Christ Jesus. This teaches us the greatness of sin, keeps us humble, tender, and watchful, and yet gives sufficient peace and strength at the same time.

My dying Saviour and my God,
Fountain for guilt and sin,
Sprinkle me ever with thy blood,
And cleanse and keep me clean.

Wash me and make me thus thy own;
Wash me, and mine thou art!
Wash me, but not my feet alone,
My hands, my head, my heart.

The atonement of thy blood apply,
Till faith to sight improve;
Till hope shall in fruition die,
And all my soul be love.

For ever here, my rest shall be
Close to thy bleeding side;
’Tis all my hope and all my plea,
For me the Saviour died.
