2 Chronicles 3:1-17

The Chronicles present the building of the temple from a different angle to the book of Kings. The latter saw it above all as the dwelling place of the LORD in the midst of His people. Our book goes on to portray it rather as the place of access where the worshipper is admitted to meet his God. The foundation of the house is established on Mount Moriah where the grace of God had suspended judgment and consumed the burnt offering.

As far as the Church is concerned, we know upon which rock it is built, from Peter’s declaration and from the reply of the Lord Jesus: "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16; Matthew 16:18).

Solomon builds in turn the porch, the greater house and the most holy place. Then he makes the two large sculptured cherubim, the veil, then the two pillars, Jachin and Boaz. The extraordinary height of the porch is only mentioned here: one hundred and twenty cubits high, that is four times the height of the house. Is that not a picture of Psalms 24:7; Psalms 24:9 which twice repeats: "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in"? For such a great Person, what gate would do?
