Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life
There are risk takers and there are risk takers. Yesterday I met a risk taker. Or, I should say, I came close to meeting a risk taker. She was driving a black pickup truck. She thought she could pass safely with a blind hill ahead. She was right. She could pass safely, but only because I stood on my brakes when I came over the blind hill right at her. Her risk was not just hers but mine as well. Such risk takers are the ones we might deem undesirable.
I met another risk taker last week. She was "shopping" at WalMart. She removed some items from the shelf in one section, looked around, and then placed the items in her purse. They were lower ticket items that did not have security devices on them. I sauntered up by her and reminded her that she would need to pay for those items when she checked out. As I continued on I noticed that she put them back on the shelf.
Two months ago I met yet another risk taker. He was relaxing at a local coffee shop. He was talking to anyone who would listen about an investment he had made. He had drawn his entire life's savings out of the bank and had purchased a stock for which someone had given him a hot tip. It paid off. Each of these risk takers took risks that they were willing to take. One foolishly involved others, one would affect others with her actions, while one was totally focused on himself and himself alone.
There is still one other risk taker. I've met Him, too. He risked His life in the hopes that others would accept His actions as necessary for their well being. He took His action while those He wanted to help were pretty much His enemies. He put His life on the line for people who could care less with the off chance that some would understand His actions and accept Him as their friend.
"For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:6-8 Jesus was the ultimate risk taker. How much are we willing to risk for Him?
