Chip Shots from the Ruff of Life
With the year 2004 coming to a close I can't help but take the time to say something about, well, time. This year I read a story about a man who was going to walk across the United States, all forty-eight contiguous states. That reminds me of a statement I once read by a man named Steven Wright. "Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time."
Ah yes, if you have the time. That is the one complaint that I hear from so many. They complain that they just don't have the time to do certain things. They get asked to help with a church program. "I don't have the time." Yet, the time seems to be there for those things they count as fun or interesting. They have the time to do whatever they want as long as they manage it properly.
Every year, with the exception of leap year, we each have 365 days broken down into little segments called weeks which are broken down into smaller segments called days which are broken on down to hours and then to minutes. If you look solely at just the number of minutes, because it only takes minutes to do God's will in many instances, we each have 525,600 a year to work with.
If we just give God 2,340 concentrated effort minutes a year, that's forty-five a week, our service for the Lord and His kingdom would be phenomenal. Just forty-five minutes a week. Fit it in on an evening of sitcoms or even your favorite drama. In forty-five minutes you can touch a life for the Lord that you may never have the opportunity to touch again. And God will bless.
Many boast of how busy they are. God is not impressed. "For what is your life? It is but a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.' But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin." James 4:14-17 There it is. Eternity tied to our use of time. Just forty-five minutes a week. With God's blessing. One year. Is it worth your soul?
