Abel (Place Name)
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ay' behl) A place name used alone and as the first part of other place names as seen below. The Hebrew Abel is a distinct word with a different spelling from the personal name Abel (Hebrew, hebel ). The precise meaning of the place name is uncertain. It may mean, “brook.” Standing alone, Abel appears in 2 Samuel 20:14-18 , probably being the same place as Abel-beth-maachah.
