Beaten Oil
Holman Bible Dictionary
The highest grade of olive oil produced by crushing ripe olives in a mortar. The second grade of oil was produced by pressing the olives. The third grade of oil was produced by further crushing and pressing the pulp. Beaten oil was used in the lamps of the sanctuary (Exodus 27:20; Leviticus 24:2 ) and with the daily sacrifices (Exodus 29:40; Numbers 28:5 ). Solomon also used beaten oil in his trade with Hiram (1 Kings 5:11 ).
