Modern translation where KJV has “hind” or “roe.” The Hebrew has two words. Ya'aalah refers to the female ibex or mountain goat ( Proverbs 5:19 ), the mate of the ibex, Capra nubiana or Capra sinaitica ( Psalm 104:18 ). Ayalah is the female fallow deer ( Genesis 49:21; 2 Samuel 22:34; Job 39:1; Psalm 18:33; Psalm 29:9; Jeremiah 14:5; Habakkuk 3:19; Song of Song of Solomon 2:7; Song of Song of Solomon 3:5 ). The male, Cervus captrolus , is the hart or deer of Deuteronomy 12:15 ,Deuteronomy 12:15,12:22; Deuteronomy 14:5; Deuteronomy 15:22; 1 Kings 4:23; Isaiah 35:6; Psalm 42:2; Song of Song of Solomon 2:9 ,Song of Song of Solomon 2:17; Lamentations 1:6 .
