Holman Bible Dictionary
(sshyoo' al) Personal and place name meaning, “jackal.” 1. Descendant of Asher (1 Chronicles 7:36 ). 2 . Territory biblical writer used to describe path a group of Philistines took against Saul (1 Samuel 13:17 ). Some would identify it with the land of Shaalim (1 Samuel 9:4 ). The location is uncertain.
