1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(16th century) Spanish Dominican and historian. He was led to write his important work, "Guanches of Tenerife," through his interest in Our Lady of Candelaria, an image of the Virgin and Child which had been among this people long before their conversion to Christianity. The work is the best account of this lost race.
