Impediment, Impedient

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

One that renders a marriage unlawful unless a dispensation be obtained, but does not affect its validity. It is also called an impedient impediment. There are three kinds: a simple vow; mixed religion; and legal relationship under certain conditions. Each is explained under its proper title.
