Reigned in 1276. Born c.1225in Tarentaise, France as Petrus a Tarentasia; died in 1276 in Rome, Italy. Dominican, theologian. Archbishop of Lyons. Cardinal-Bishop of Ostia. He was known, prior to his election, as the "most famous doctor." The author of several works on philosophy, theology, and canon law, he sought to bring about peace between the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, Pisa and Lucca, Rudolph of Hapsburg and Charles of Anjou. At the second Council of Lyons he endeavored to consolidate the union of the Greeks with Rome. Beatified in 1898. Feast, June 22,; Rome.
