Lutgard, Saint

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Virgin, mystic; born in Tongres, Belgium in 1182; died 1246. She took the Benedictine habit, 1194, and was elected prioress of her community in 1205. In 1208 she was transferred to the Cistercian Order at Aywieres, near Brussels. Throughout her life, she was favored with apparitions of Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints. Represented with Our Lord, who is showing her His bleeding heart. Feast, June 16,.
