1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

(the adjective of "analysis," q.v.), according with, or consisting in, the method of separating a whole into its parts, the opposite of synthetic. For analytic chemistry, analytic language, &c., see the articles under the noun-headings. The title of avaXu-ruca or Analytics was given by Aristotle to his treatises on logic.
