Lierre

1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

(Flemish, Lier), a town in the province of Antwerp, Belgium; 9 M. S.E. of Antwerp. Pop. (1904) 24,229. It carries on a brisk industry in silk fabrics. Its church of St Gommaire was finished in 1557 and contains three fine glass windows, the gift of the archduke Maximilian, to celebrate his wedding with Mary of Burgundy.
