a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Cabarras County, N. C., Feb. 18, 1816. He was educated at Chapel Hill; entered mercantile business at Concord; experienced a powerful conversion in 1842, and in 1844 joined the South Carolina Conference, in which he served with diligence and fidelity until his sudden death, March 17, 1873.
