Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

a Protestant theologian of Germany, was born at Gorlitz, Aug. 21, 1741. In 1779 he joined the Moravian Brethren, who elected him in 1814 as their bishop. He died at Herrnhut, Aug. 8, 1818.
