cardinal of Boisy, had at first the title of prothonotary of Boisy, then he became bishop of Coutances in 1509. Francis I asked for the cardinal's hat for him of pope Leo X, in the conference of Boulogne, which this pontiff granted in 1515. In 1519 Gouffier obtained a charge as a legate in France.
