a Lutheran theologian, was born August 1, 1797, at Strasburg. He studied at his native place and at different German universities, was in 1823 pastor at Ittenheim, and in 1829 at Strasburg. He exercised a considerable influence in the Church and in the school, and took a great interest in the work of foreign and home missions. He died in August 1874, leaving, besides a number of sermons, Die Augsburgische Confession (Strasburg, 1834). See Lichtenberger, Encyclop. des Sciences Religieuses, s.v.; Zuchold, Bibl.
