( ῾Ιερώνυμος , sacred in name, Vulg. Hieronymus), a Syrian general in the time of Antiochus V. Eupator (2 Maccabees 12:2). The name was made distinguished among the Asiatic Greeks by Hieronymus of Cardia, the historian of Alexander's successors. Smith.
