Richards, George, D.D.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature

an English divine, was born at Halesworth, Suffolk, in 1769. He was educated at Christ's Hospital, matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford, in 1785, and obtained a scholarship. He was made fellow of Oriel College in 1790, vicar of Bampton in 1796, and rector of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields in 1820. He died in 1837. His principal work is The Divine Origin of Prophecy Illustrated and Defended, in a course of sermons preached in 1800 (Oxford, 1800, 8vo). He also published several Sermons and Poems.
