Hungarian jurist; born at Budapest Sept. 21, 1853, where he also finished his education; brother of Isidor Baumgarten. From 1876 to 1892 he practised law in Budapest, at the same time editing the technical journal "Buntet� Jog T�ra." In 1892 he became judge of the Court of Commerce and Exchange in Budapest and president of the Appellate Council, in which capacity he exercised a powerful influence upon the development of the judicature. In 1898 he was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court at Budapest.
