Biach, Alois

The 1901 Jewish Encyclopedia

Austrian physician and medical writer; born in Lettowitz, Moravia, Austria, May 1, 1849. He was educated at the gymnasium at Br�nn and at the University of Vienna. After graduating as M. D. in 1873, he established himself in Vienna, where he was appointed a member of the board of health. In 1883 he became privat-docent of medicine (Innere Medicin) at the university in that city. Biach has occupied the position of secretary to the society of physicians of Lower Austria.

In addition to his work on "Die Neueren Antipyretica," Vienna, 1889, he is the author of many essays, of which the following may be mentioned: "Ueber Aneurysmen an den Herzklappen," in "Jahrb�cher der Gesellschaft der Aerzte in Wien," 1878; "Ueber Jaborandi und Seine Alkaloide," in "Mittheilungen des Vereins der Aerzte in Nieder�sterreich," 1879; "Versuche �ber die Physiologische Wirkung des Chinolins," in Virchow's "Archiv f�r Pathologische Anatomie und Physiologie und f�r Klinische Medizin," 1881; "Cirrhosis Hepatis mit Wandst�ndiger Thrombose der Vena Port� und Vena Meseraica Superior," in "Mittheilungen des Vereins der Aerzte in Nieder�sterreich," 1884; "Entwicklung von Krebs des Magens auf der Basis eines Runden Magengeschw�rs," in "Wiener Medizinische Presse," 1890.
