Convert to Christianity; lived at Paris, later at Metz, in the second half of the seventeenth century. He was a descendant of the rabbi Jacob Weil of Nuremberg. Having embraced Christianity while still a youth, he studied theology at the Sorbonne, and devoted himself to the interpretation of Maimonides' "Yad ha-?aza?ah," of which he translated into Latin the following halakot: "'Abodat Yom ha-Kippurim," Paris, 1667; "?ame? u-Ma??ah," ib. 1667; "?iddush ha-?odesh," ib. 1669; "Ta'aniyyot," ib. 1667; "Sefer ha-'Abodah," comprising all the halakot concerning the service of the Temple, ib. 1678; "Sefer ha-?orbanot," with Abravanel's introduction to Leviticus, London, 1683. A separate edition of this introduction appeared under the title "Ha?damat Abravanel el Sefer Wa-Yi?ra," Amsterdam, 1701.

In addition to these works Compigne translated into Latin Abraham Yagel's catechism, "Le?a? ?ob," London, 1679.
