City in the extreme south of Judah, allotted to Simeon (Joshua 19:5). In the parallel passage 1 Chronicles 4:31, the reading is "Hazarsusim," where the Greek translators have 'Hμισυσεωσιμ, which would presuppose the Hebrew reading "Ḥaẓisusim." In Joshua it is mentioned between Bethmarcaboth and Beth-lebaoth; in Chronicles between Beth-marcaboth and Beth-birei. Whether read "Hazar-susah" (village of the horse) or "Hazarsusim" (village of horses), its connection with Bethmarcaboth ("house of chariots") suggests that it was a station used for military purposes (comp. 1 Kings 10:28,29).
