American soldier; born in New York city Jan. 23, 1863; educated in the public schools. He joined the regular army as a private in 1885, and was appointed second lieutenant, Second Artillery, in 1889. Graduating from the Artillery School in 1894, he became first lieutenant, Fourth Artillery, in 1895, and was transferred to the Second Artillery in the same year. In 1898 he was promoted captain and quartermaster, and since 1903 has been stationed at Washington, D. C., as major-quartermaster.
