Lg. 629d; ζῷα alien to man, wild, D.S. 3.18, Porph. Abst. 1.10; πόλεμος ἀ. war with foreigners, Plu. Cam. 23; opp. ὁμόφυλος, Epicur. Sent. 39; ἀ. πρός τι Dam. ἀλλόφυλος, (ἄλλος, and φῦλον race), foreign, (in secular authors from (Aeschylus) Thucydides down); when used in Hellenistic Greek in opposed to a Jew, it signifies a Gentile, (A. V. one of another nation): Acts 10:28. (Philo, Josephus.)
