(others give it the same meaning in one or other of the preceding passages also; cf. Lightfoot on Colossians, the passage cited)), 1 Thessalonians 1:5. (Not found elsewhere except in ecclesiastical writings (cf. Winer's Grammar, 25).)

";meekness,"; ";gentleness of spirit,"; is found in the Greek Bible only in 1 Timothy 6:11. Philo de Abr. (ed. Cohn) 213 applies it to Abraham, and it is also found in Ign. Trall. 8 ὑμεῖς οὖν τὴν πραϋπάθειαν ἀναλαβόντες ἀνακτήσασθε ἑαυτοὺς ἐν πίστει, ";do ye therefore arm yourselves with gentleness and recover yourselves in faith"; (Lightfoot).
