Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

חָנָה fut. יַחֲנֶה, apoc. וַיִּחַן

(1)  to bow down, to incline (to decline). (Kindred roots are חָנַן, עָנָח. Arab. حنا to bend, to incline; metaph. to be inclined to any thing; compare חָפֵץ.) Judges 19:9, הִנֵּה חֲנוֹת הַיּוֹם “behold the inclining of the day,” the day already declining. Hence חֲנִית a spear, from its flexibility.

(2) to set oneself down, to pitch one’s tent, Genesis 26:17 to encamp, Exodus 13:20, 17:1 19:2. Numbers 1:50, בַּחֲנוֹת הַמִּשְׁכָּן “where the tabernacle is let down,” i.e. is pitched.

(a) followed by עַל to encamp against any person or city; hence to besiege, Psalms 27:3; 2 Samuel 12:28; Isaiah 29:3. Followed by an acc. id. Psalms 53:6.

(b) to defend any thing, followed by לְ Zechariah 9:8 compare Psalms 34:8.

(3) to inhabit, Isaiah 29:1.
