So constantly with verbs of going, as בא, הלך, שׁב, ברח (followed by a person, usually מפני), of calling, as Isaiah 24:14 צָֽהֲלוּ מִיָּם, Isaiah 42:10,11; Psalm 148:1 of asking or exacting as שׁאל, בקשׁ, דרשׁ, נָקַם,הִנָּקֵם, of delivering, as הושׁיע, הציל, etc., of hiding as נעלם, העלים, etc., of taking or withholding, as לקח, חשׂך, מנע, of keeping ( from), as נצר, שׁמר, of being far, or desisting, as רחק Exodus 23:7, חֲדַל מִמֶּנּוּ desist from us, Exodus 14:2, so הֶרֶף Deuteronomy 9:14,הֵנִיחַ Deuteronomy 12:10, השׁקיט > Psalm 94:13, שׁבת Genesis 2:2, compare Genesis 5:29; note especially the pregnant constructions, שׁפט to judge (and save) from Psalm 43:1, followed by מִיַּד 1 Samuel 24:16 +, ענה to answer (and save) from Psalm 22:22, חרשׁ and חשׁה to be silent (turning) from Psalm 28:1 (twice in verse), החרישׁו ממני Job 13:13; Jeremiah 38:27; Psalm 18:22 ולא רשׁעתי מאלהי not did wickedly (turning) from my God, Psalm 30:4 Kt., Psalm 73:27, כלזֿוֺנֶה ממך, Jeremiah 3:20 בָּגַד מִן (ᵐ5 εἰς = ב), Jeremiah 31:13 with שִׂמַּח ( 2 Chronicles 20:27), Ezekiel 27:34; Proverbs 25:17; הֹקַר רַגְלְךָ מִבֵּית רֵעֶ֫ךָ, Isaiah 29:4; Isaiah 63:17; Joel 1:12; Jeremiah 51:5 אַלְמָן מֵאֱלֹהָיו widowed (and severed) from etc., Ezekiel 44:22; also Judges 7:17 מִמֶּנִּי תִרְאוּ וְכֵן תַּעֲשׂוּ ye shall see from me, i.e. learn what to do by observing me. Some of the verbs mentioned above are construed more precisely with מֵאֵת, מֵעִם, מֵעַל, q. v.: and others, especially לקח, דרשׁ, הושׁיע, הצּיל, מּדה, מִּלֵּט, idiomatic with מִיַּד. With infinitives, see below 7b. often also with adverbs, as מִשָּׁם thence, מֵאַיִן whence ? מִוֶּה, מִמֹּה hence. compare also חָפְשִׁי מִן free (safe) from Job 3:19, עֵזֶר מִצָּרָיו a help from his foes Deuteronomy 33:7; Nahum 3:11 מָעוֺז מֵאוֺיֵב, Psalm 32:7 סֵתֶר מִצַּר, Psalm 60:13 עֶזְרָת מִצָּ֑ר, Isaiah 4:6 צֵל מֵחֹרֶב a shadow from, the heat, Isaiah 25:4. b.מן also, without a verb of similar significance, sometimes expresses the idea of separation, away from, far from (compare II:2. 162 φίλης ἀπὸ πατρίδος αἴης): Proverbs 20:3 שֶׁכֶת מֵרִיב to sit away from strife (compare ap. De), Numbers 15:24 if the thing be done מֵעֵינֵי הָעֵדָה away from the eyes of etc., Judges 5:11 De RV (but Be RVm because of), Isaiah 14:19 cast out מִקִּבְרְךָ away from thy sepulchre, Job 28:4 דַּלּוּ מֵאֱנוֺשׁ, Genesis 4:11 cursed art thou האדמה מןֿ, De Di away from the (tilled) soil, compare Genesis 4:14 (but Kn Ke from, compare Genesis 4:12 a), Genesis 27:39 (probably) הָאָרֶץ מִשְׁמַנֵּי away from the fatness of the earth shall be thy dwelling; almost = without, Job 11:15 then shalt thou lift up thy face מִמּוּם away from, without spot, Job 19:26 (probably) מִבְּשָׂרִי without my flesh shall I see God, Job 21:9 בָּֽתֵּיהֶם שָׁלוֺם מִמַּחַד are at peace without fear, Proverbs 1:33; Jeremiah 48:45 fleeing עָֽמְדוּ מִכֹּחַ they stand without strength, Isaiah 22:3 מִקֶּשֶׁת אֻסָּ֫רוּ (Hi De Di Che) they were bound without the bow (being used) (but Ges as

With a following לְ (or suffix), most of these words are frequently in the sense of on the east ( west, etc.) of . . ., as Joshua 8:13 לָעִיר מִיָּם on the west of the city, מִקֶּדֶם לְ Genesis 3:24, מִצְּפוֺן לְ (construct Ges§ 130a, n.) Joshua 8:11,13; Joshua 24:30, מִימִינֶ֑ךָ Psalm 91:7, מִתַּחַת לְ Genesis 1:7, מִמַּעַל לְ Genesis 22:9, מִבֵּית לְ Leviticus 16:2: מֵאַחֲרֵי behind Exodus 14:19 מִצַּד בֵּיתְאֵל beside Bethel Joshua 12:9, מִצִּדּוֺ beside it 1 Samuel 6:8, מֵעֵבֶר לַיַּרְדֵּן on the other side of Jordan Numbers 21:1 +; מֵהָֽלְאָה לְ beyond Amos 5:27; tablets written מִשְּׁנֵי עֶבְרֵיהֶם on both their sides, מִכָּלעֲֿבָרָיו Jeremiah 49:32 + (see further the words cited). So מֵהַבַּיִת on the side of the house Ezekiel 40:7,8,9, מֵאֵצֶל beside Ezekiel 40:7; 1 Samuel 20:21 the arrows are מִמְּךָ וָהֵנָּה from thee and hither = on this side of thee, 1 Samuel 20:22 מִמְּךָ וָהָֽלְהָא, compare Numbers 32:19 (twice in verse).
