1 Chronicles 17
Chapter 17
The Lord's Covenant with David
1 When David(a) had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Look! I am living in a cedar house while the ark of the Lord 's covenant is under tent curtains."(b)
2 So Nathan told David, "Do all that is on your heart, for God is with you."
3 But that night(c) the word of God came to Nathan: 4 "Go to David My servant and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: You are not the one to build Me a house to dwell in.(d) 5 From the time I brought Israel out of Egypt until today I have not lived in a house; instead, I have moved from tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.(e) 6 In all My travels throughout Israel, have I ever spoken a word to even one of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people, asking: Why haven't you built Me a house of cedar?'(f)
7 "Now this is what you will say to My servant David: ‘This is what the Lord of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from following the sheep to be ruler over My people Israel.(g) 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before you. I will make a name for you like that of the greatest in the land. 9 I will establish a place for My people Israel and plant them,(h) so that they may live there and not be disturbed again. Evildoers will not continue to oppress them as they formerly have 10 ever since the day I ordered judges to be over My people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies.
"‘Furthermore, I declare to you that the Lord Himself will build a house for you. 11 When your time comes to be with your fathers, I will raise up after you your descendant, who is one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He will build a house for Me,(i) and I will establish his throne forever. 13 I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me.(j) I will not take away My faithful love from him as I took it from the one who was before you.(k) 14 I will appoint him over My house and My kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.'"(l)
15 Nathan reported all these words and this entire vision to David.
David's Prayer of Thanksgiving
16 Then(m) King David went in, sat in the Lord 's presence, and said,
Who am I, Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far? 17 This was a little thing to You,[a] God, for You have spoken about Your servant's house in the distant future. You regard me as a man of distinction,[b] Lord God. 18 What more can David say to You for honoring Your servant? You know Your servant. 19 Lord , You have done all this greatness, making known all these great promises because of Your servant and according to Your will.(n) 20 Lord , there is no one like You, and there is no God besides You, as all we have heard confirms. 21 And who is like Your people Israel? God, You came to one nation on earth to redeem a people for Yourself, to make a name for Yourself through great and awesome works by driving out nations before Your people You redeemed from Egypt.(o) 22 You made Your people Israel Your own people forever, and You, Lord , have become their God.(p)
23 Now, Lord , let the word that You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house be confirmed forever, and do as You have promised. 24 Let Your name be confirmed and magnified forever in the saying, "Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel." May the house of Your servant David be established before You. 25 Since You, my God, have revealed to[c](q) Your servant that You will build him a house, Your servant has found courage to pray in Your presence. 26 Yahweh, You indeed are God, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant. 27 So now, You have been pleased to bless Your servant's house that it may continue before You forever. For You, Lord , have blessed it, and it is blessed forever.
Zechariah 6
Chapter 6
Eighth Vision: Four Chariots
1 Then I looked up again and saw four chariots coming from between two mountains. And the mountains were made of bronze. 2 The first chariot had red horses,(a) the second chariot black horses,(b) 3 the third chariot white horses,(c) and the fourth chariot dappled(d) horses—all strong horses. 4 So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, "What are these, my lord?"
5 The angel told me, "These are the four spirits[a](e) of heaven going out after presenting themselves to the Lord of the whole earth. 6 The one with the black horses is going to the land of the north, the white horses are going after them, but the dappled horses are going to the land of the south." 7 As the strong horses went out, they wanted to go patrol the earth, and the Lord said, "Go, patrol the earth." So they patrolled the earth. 8 Then He summoned me saying, "See, those going to the land of the north have pacified My Spirit in the northern land."
Crowning of the Branch
9 The word of the Lord came to me:(f) 10 "Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. 11 Take silver and gold, make crowns and place them on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. 12 You are to tell him: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Here is a man whose name is Branch;(g) He will branch out from His place and build the Lord 's temple. 13 Yes, He will build the Lord 's temple; He will be clothed in splendor(h) and will sit on His throne and rule. There will also be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two of them.(i) 14 The crown will reside in the Lord 's temple as a memorial to Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen[b] son of Zephaniah. 15 People who are far off will come and build the Lord 's temple, and you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen when you fully obey the Lord your God."(j)
John 4:43-54
Chapter 4
43 After two days He left there for Galilee.(ao) 44 Jesus Himself testified(ap) that a prophet has no honor in his own country.(aq) 45 When(ar) they entered Galilee, the Galileans(as) welcomed Him because they had seen everything He did in Jerusalem(at) during the festival.(au) For they also had gone to the festival.
The Second Sign: Healing an Official's Son
46 Then He went again to Cana(av) of Galilee, where He had turned the water into wine. There was a certain royal official whose son was ill at Capernaum.(aw) 47 When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea(ax) into Galilee, he went to Him and pleaded with Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
48 Jesus told him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders,(ay) you will not believe." (az)
49 "Sir,"(ba) the official said to Him, "come down before my boy dies!"
50 "Go," Jesus told him, "your son will live." The man believed what[p] Jesus said to him and departed.
51 While he was still going down, his slaves met him saying that his boy was alive. 52 He asked them at what time he got better. "Yesterday at seven in the morning[q] the fever left him," they answered. 53 The father(bb) realized this was the very hour at which Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." Then he himself believed, along with his whole household.
54 This, therefore, was the second sign(bc) Jesus performed after He came from Judea to Galilee.(bd)
