Satan Bound

^1 (F1)And then I saw ^(C1)an angel descending from heaven, holding the ^(C2)key of the abyss (the bottomless pit) and a great chain was in his hand.² And he overpowered and laid hold of the ^(C1)dragon, that old serpent of primeval times, who is the devil and Satan, and ^(C2)bound him securely for a thousand years (a millennium); ^(VR1)3 and the angel hurled him into the ^(C1)abyss, and closed it and ^(C2)sealed it above him preventing his escape or rescue, so that he would ^(C3)no longer deceive and seduce the nations, until the thousand years were at an end. After these things he must be liberated for a short time.

The Millennial Reign

⁴ And then I saw ^(C1)thrones, and ^(C2)sitting on them were those to whom ^(C3)judgment that is, the authority to act as judges was given. And I saw ^(C4)the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their ^(C5)testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had refused to ^(C6)worship the beast or his image, and had not accepted his ^(C7)mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they ^(C8)came to life and ^(C9)reigned with Christ for a thousand years. ^(VR1)5 The rest of the dead the non-believers did not come to life again until the thousand years were completed. ^(C1)This is the first resurrection.^6 (F1)(C1)Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) and holy is the person who takes part in the first resurrection; over these the ^(C2)second death which is eternal separation from God, the lake of fire has no power or authority, but they will be ^(C3)priests of God and of Christ and they will ^(C4)reign with Him a thousand years. ^(VR1)

The Final Rebellion

⁷ And when the thousand years are completed, Satan will be ^(C1)released from his prison (the abyss),⁸ and will come out to ^(C1)deceive and mislead the ^(F1)nations which are in the ^(C2)four corners of the earth—including ^(C3)Gog and Magog—to ^(C4)gather them together for the war; their number is like the ^(C5)sand of the seashore. ^(VR1)9 And they ^(C1)swarmed up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the ^(C2)camp of the saints (God's people) and the ^(C3)beloved city ^(F1)Jerusalem; but ^(C4)fire came down from heaven and consumed them. ^(VR1)10 And ^(C1)the devil who had ^(C1)deceived them was hurled into the ^(C2)lake of fire and burning brimstone (sulfur), where the ^(C3)beast (Antichrist) and ^(C3)false prophet are also; and they will be ^(C4)tormented day and night, forever and ever.

The Final Judgment

¹¹ And I saw a great white ^(C1)throne and Him who was seated upon it, from whose presence ^(C2)earth and heaven fled away, and ^(C3)no place was found for them for this heaven and earth are passing away. ^(VR1)12 And I saw the dead, the ^(C1)great and the small, standing before the throne, and ^(C2)books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is ^(C3)the Book of Life; and the dead ^(C1)were judged ^(C4)according to what they had done as written in the books that is, everything done while on earth. ^(VR1)13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, and ^(C1)death and Hades (the realm of the dead) ^(C2)surrendered the dead who were in them; and they were judged and sentenced, every one ^(C3)according to their deeds.¹⁴ Then ^(C1)death and Hades the realm of the dead were thrown into ^(C2)the lake of fire. This is the ^(C3)second death, ^(C3)the lake of fire the eternal separation from God. ^(VR1)15 And if ^(F1)anyone's name was not found ^(F2)written in ^(C1)the Book of Life, he was hurled into the lake of fire.
