Revelation 21

   |

The New Heaven and Earth

1 Then I saw (C1)a new heaven and a new earth; for (C2)the first heaven and the first earth had passed away (vanished), and there is no longer any (F1)sea. (VR1)2 And I saw (C1)the holy city, (C2)new Jerusalem, (C3)coming down out of heaven from God, (C4)arrayed like a bride adorned for her husband; (VR1)3 and then I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "See! (C1)The tabernacle of God is among men, and He will (C2)live among them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them (F1)[as their God,] (VR1)4 and He will (C1)wipe away every tear from their eyes; and (C2)there will no longer be death; (C3)there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for (C4)the (F1)former order of things has passed away." (VR1)

5 And (C1)He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am (C2)making all things new." Also He said, "Write, for (C3)these words are faithful and true they are accurate, incorruptible, and trustworthy." (VR1)6 And He said to me, "(C1)It is done. I am the (C2)Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the one who thirsts (C3)I will give water from the fountain of the (C4)water of life without cost. (VR1)7 "(F1)(C1)He who overcomes the world by adhering faithfully to Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior will inherit these things, and (C2)I will be his God and he will be My son. (VR1)8 "(C1)But as for the cowards and unbelieving and abominable who are devoid of character and personal integrity and practice or tolerate immorality, and murderers, and sorcerers with intoxicating drugs, and idolaters and occultists who practice and teach false religions, and all the liars who knowingly deceive and twist truth, their part will be in (C2)the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone, which is the (C3)second death."

The New Jerusalem

9 (C1)Then one of the seven angels who had the (C2)seven bowls filled with the (C3)seven final plagues came and spoke with me, saying, "(C1)Come here, I will show you the (C4)bride, the wife of the Lamb."10 And (C1)he carried me away (C2)in the Spirit to a vast and lofty mountain, and showed me (C3)the holy (sanctified) city of Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, (VR1)11 having (C1)God's glory filled with His radiant light. The brilliance of it resembled a rare and very precious (C2)jewel, like (F1)(C3)jasper, shining and clear as crystal.12 It had a massive and high wall, (C1)with twelve large (C2)gates, and at the gates were stationed twelve angels; and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were written. (VR1)13 On the east side there were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.14 And the wall of the city had (C1)twelve foundation stones, and on them the twelve names of the (C2)twelve apostles of the Lamb (Christ).

15 The one who was speaking with me had a gold measuring (C1)rod to measure the city, and its (C2)gates and its wall.16 The city is laid out as a square, its length being the same as its width; and he measured the city with his rod—twelve thousand stadia (about 1,400 miles); its length and width and height are equal.17 He measured its wall also—a hundred forty-four cubits (about 200 feet), according to (C1)man's measurements, which are also (C2)angelic measurements.18 The wall was built of (C1)jasper; and the city was (C2)pure gold, transparent like clear (C3)crystal. (VR1)19 (C1)The foundation stones of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation stone was (C2)jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, (F1)chalcedony; the fourth, (C3)emerald; (VR1)20 the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, (C1)sardius; the seventh, chrysolite (yellow topaz); the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprase; the eleventh, jacinth; the twelfth, amethyst.21 And the twelve (C1)gates were twelve (C2)pearls; each separate gate was of one single pearl. And the street (broad way) of the city was (C3)pure gold, like transparent (C4)crystal.

22 I saw (C1)no temple in it, for the (C2)Lord God Almighty the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all and the (C3)Lamb are its temple.23 And the city (C1)has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for (C2)the glory (splendor, radiance) of God has illumined it, and the (C3)Lamb is its lamp and light. (VR1)24 (C1)The nations the redeemed people from the earth will walk by its light, and the (C2)kings of the earth will bring into it their glory. (VR1)25 By day (for (C1)there will be no night there) (C2)its gates (C3)will never be closed in fear of evil; (VR1)26 and (C1)they will bring the glory (splendor, majesty) and the honor of the nations into it;27 and (C1)nothing that defiles or profanes or is unwashed will ever enter it, nor anyone who practices abominations detestable, morally repugnant things and lying, but only those will be admitted whose names have been (C2)written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
