Verse 1

While most of the book of Isaiah is poetic, the narratives of Isa 6–8 and Isa 36–39 provide a historical setting for the two major crises that form the background of Isaiah’s message. This narrative focuses on the Assyrian crisis faced by King Hezekiah of Judah around 701 bc. These chapters cover the same events as 2 Kings 18:132 Kings 20:19. The overlap suggests the two books may have common authorship or a common source. Other biblical passages give Isaiah a role in writing the court histories of Uzziah and Hezekiah (2 Chr 26:22; 2chr 32:32).

the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah -- 701 bc; see 2 Kings 18:13
