Holman Bible Dictionary

A people who lived south of or with the Philistines (1 Samuel 30:14 ). They were probably related to or paid soldiers for the Philistines. Crete may have been their original home. David used some of these soldiers as a personal bodyguard (2 Samuel 8:18 ). Ezekiel pronounced judgment on them (Ezekiel 25:16 ), as did Zephaniah (Zephaniah 2:5 ).
