(ta' muh rihssk)A shrublike tree (Tamarix syriaca ) common to the Sinai and southern Palestine with small white or pink flowers. Many varieties of the tree exist. Abraham planted a tamarisk at Beer-sheba (Genesis 21:33 ), and Saul was buried beneath one at Jabesh-gilead (1 Samuel 31:13 ). Saul convened his court under one (1 Samuel 22:6 ). KJV translated, “grave” and “tree.” Some believe the resin which the tamarisk produces may have been the manna eaten by the Hebrews during the wilderness wanderings.
