(Gregory VIII) Antipope, 1118, born probably Limoges, France; died Salerno, Italy, c1137 A Cluniac monk, he was made Archbishop of Braga, Portugal, 1111, but was suspended by Paschal II, 1114. In 1117 he crowned the papal enemy, Emperor Henry V; for this he was excommunicated. After Paschal's death Henry had him proclaimed pope, 1118. Later, he was forced to flee to Sutri, where Callistus II captured him and imprisoned him in a monastery.
