Reigned from October 21, 1187 to December 17, 1187. Born c.1100in Benevento, Italy as Alberto di Morra; died at Pisa, Italy. He was a Premonstratensian, cardinal-priest, and chancellor, in which capacity he was sent to England to investigate the murder of Saint Thomas a Becket. Elected in the midst of war with the Saracens and the capture of Jerusalem, he at once opened negotiations for a reconciliation with Barbarossa, with the purpose of organizing a Crusade. Before this could be accomplished, he died, while attempting to mediate between Pisa and Genoa.
