Mâhar (מָהַר, Strong's #4116), “to hasten, make haste.” This verb and various derivatives are common to both ancient and modern Hebrew. Mâhar occurs approximately 70 times in the Hebrew Bible; it appears twice in the first verse in which it is found: “And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal …” (Gen. 18:6). Mâhar often has an adverbial use when it appears with another verb, such as in Gen. 18:7: “… hasted to dress it” (or “quickly prepared it”).
