(Heb. Beyth Maakah' [or הִמִּעֲכָה ] בֵּית מִעֲכָה, house of [the] Maachah; always with the prefix Abel or Abelah; Sept. Βαιθμάχα, or Βαιθμααχά v. r. Θαμααχά , etc.), a place named in 2 Samuel 20:14-15, and there occurring more as a definition of the position of ABEL than for itself; more fully called ABEL-BETH-MAACHAH (See ABEL-BETH-MAACHAH)

(q.v.) in 2 Kings 15:29. In the absence of more information, we can only conclude that it is identical with MAACHAH, or ARAM-MAACHAH, one of the petty Syrian kingdoms in the north of Palestine. (See ARAM).
