Hezron
Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
or (Heb. Chetsron', הֶצְרוֹן, enclosed [Gesen.] or blooming [Furst]; Sept. Ἀσρών, Ἀσερών), the name of two men, and also of a place.
1. The third son of Reuben (Genesis 46:9; Exodus 6:14; 1 Chronicles 4:1; 1 Chronicles 5:3). His descendants were called HEZRONITES (Chetsroni', חֶצְרֹנַי, Sept. Ἀσρωνί , Numbers 26:6; Numbers 26:21). B.C. 1874.
2. The oldest of the two sons of Pharez and grandson of Judah (Genesis 46:12; Ruth 4:18-19; 1 Chronicles 2:5; 1 Chronicles 2:9; 1 Chronicles 2:18; 1 Chronicles 2:21; 1 Chronicles 2:24-25); called ESROM (Ε᾿σρώμ ) in Matthew 1:3. B.C. 1856. 3. A place on the southern boundary of Judah, west of Kadesh-Barnea, and between that and Adar (Joshua 15:3); otherwise called HAZOR (Joshua 15:25). The punctuation and enumeration, however, require us to connect the associated names thus: Kerioth-hezron = Hazoranam. (See HAZOR).
