flourished in the second half of the 7th century, and is said to have been bishop of Trier under king Pepin. This position he resigned, and founded a monastery in the Vogese mountains. Rettberg (Kirchken-Gesch. Deutschl. 1, 467 sq.; 522 sq.) is inclined to think that Hildulf never held a bishopric. Many biographies have been published of him. — Herzog, Real-Encyklop. 6, 96. (J.
