bishop of Paderborn from 1009 to 1036, was of noble descent. He was educated at Halberstadt and Hildesheim, and became royal chaplain under Otto III. Henry II made him bishop, and took him to Italy in 1013. Meinwerk also accompanied Henry's successor, Conrad II, to Italy in 1026, and by the services which Meinwerk thus rendered he greatly advanced the cause of the Church. By the munificence of his royal patrons he was enabled to devote much of his time in the interest of the school and in founding new monasteries. He died June 5, 1036, but was not canonized until 1376. His life is found in Pertz, Monumenta Germanie, 11:104-161.
