Name borne by two persons mentioned in the Old Testament; probably an abbreviation, or corruption, of PALTIEL. 1. Son of Raphu, of the tribe of Benjamin; one of the twelve spies (Numbers 13:9). 2. Second husband of Michal, daughter of Saul, and wife of David (1 Samuel 25:44); in 2 Samuel 3:15 the name is given as "Phaltiel" ("Paltiel" in the Hebrew).
