Genesis 18:28, אוּלַי יַחְסְרוּן חֲמִשִּׁים הַצַּדִּקִים חֲמִשָּׁה “perhaps five shall be lacking to the fifty righteous;” properly, “perhaps the fifty righteous shall lack five.”

(4) to be wanting, Ecclesiastes 9:8; Deuteronomy 15:8. (Arab. خَسَرَ and خَسِرَ to suffer harm or loss.)

Piel, to cause to want. Psalms 8:6, וַתְּחַסְּרֵהוּ מְעַט מֵאֱלֹהִים “thou hast made him to be wanting but a little of God;” that he should not be much lower than God; [but see the true meaning of this passage from the use made of it in Heb. ii. 7, 9]; followed by מִן of the thing, Ecclesiastes 4:8.

Hiphil

(1) causat. to make to fail (fehlen, mangeln laffen), Isaiah 32:6.
