Exodus 15
Chapter 15
Israel's Song
1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord . They said:
I will sing to the
Lord
,
for He is highly exalted;
He has thrown the horse
and its rider into the sea.
2 The
Lord
is my strength and my song;[a]
He has become my salvation.(a)
This is my God, and I will praise Him,
my father's God, and I will exalt Him.(b)
3 The
Lord
is a warrior;(c)
Yahweh is His name.(d)
4 He threw Pharaoh's chariots
and his army into the sea;
the elite of his officers
were drowned in the Red Sea.(e)
5 The floods covered them;
they sank to the depths like a stone.(f)
6
Lord
, Your right hand is glorious in power.
Lord
, Your right hand shattered the enemy.(g)
7 You overthrew Your adversaries
by Your great majesty.
You unleashed Your burning wrath;
it consumed them like stubble.(h)
8 The waters heaped up(i) at the blast of Your nostrils;
the currents stood firm like a dam.
The watery depths congealed in the heart of the sea.
9 The enemy said:
"I will pursue, I will overtake,
I will divide the spoil.(j)
My desire will be gratified at their expense.
I will draw my sword;
my hand will destroy[b] them."
10 But You blew with Your breath,
and the sea covered them.
They sank like lead
in the mighty waters.

Lord
, who is like You among the gods?
Who is like You, glorious in holiness,(k)
revered with praises, performing wonders?(l)
12 You stretched out Your right hand,
and the earth swallowed them.
13 You will lead the people
You have redeemed
with Your faithful love;
You will guide them to Your holy dwelling
with Your strength.(m)
14 When the peoples hear, they will shudder;
anguish will seize the inhabitants of Philistia.
15 Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified;(n)
trembling will seize the leaders of Moab;
the inhabitants of Canaan will panic;
16 and terror(o) and dread will fall on them.
They will be as still[c] as a stone
because of Your powerful arm
until Your people pass by,
Lord
,
until the people whom You purchased[d] pass by.(p)
17 You will bring them in and plant them
on the mountain of Your possession;(q)
Lord
, You have prepared the place
for Your dwelling;
Lord,[e] Your hands have established the sanctuary.
18 The
Lord
will reign(r) forever and ever!
19 When Pharaoh's horses with his chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them. But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. 20 Then Miriam the prophetess,(s) Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her with their tambourines and danced.(t) 21 Miriam sang to them:
Sing to the
Lord
,
for He is highly exalted;
He has thrown the horse
and its rider into the sea.
Water Provided
22 Then Moses led Israel on from the Red Sea, and they went out to the Wilderness of Shur. They journeyed for three days in the wilderness without finding water. 23 They came to Marah, but they could not drink the water at Marah because it was bitter—that is why it was named Marah.[f] 24 The people grumbled to Moses, "What are we going to drink?"(u) 25 So he cried out to the Lord , and the Lord showed him a tree. When he threw it into the water, the water became drinkable.
He made a statute and ordinance for them at Marah and He tested them there.(v) 26 He said, "If you will carefully obey the Lord your God, do what is right in His eyes, pay attention to His commands, and keep all His statutes, I will not inflict any illnesses on you that I inflicted on the Egyptians. For I am Yahweh who heals you."(w)
27 Then they came to Elim, where there were 12 springs of water and 70 date palms, and they camped there by the waters.
Proverbs 6:1-7:5
Chapter 6
Financial Entanglements
1 My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor[a]
or entered into an agreement with[b] a stranger,[c](a)
2 you have been trapped by the words of your lips[d]—
ensnared by the words of your mouth.
3 Do this, then, my son, and free yourself,
for you have put yourself in your neighbor's power:
Go, humble yourself, and plead with your neighbor.
4 Don't give sleep to your eyes
or slumber to your eyelids.(b)
5 Escape like a gazelle from a hunter,[e]
like a bird from a fowler's trap.[f](c)
Laziness
6 Go to the ant,(d) you slacker!(e)
Observe its ways and become wise.
7 Without leader, administrator, or ruler,
8 it prepares its provisions in summer;
it gathers its food during harvest.(f)
9 How long will you stay in bed, you slacker?
When will you get up from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the arms to rest,(g)
11 and your poverty will come like a robber,
your need, like a bandit.(h)
The Malicious Man
12 A worthless person,(i) a wicked man
goes around speaking dishonestly,(j)
13 winking(k) his eyes, signaling with his feet,
and gesturing with his fingers.
14 He always plots evil(l) with perversity in his heart—
he stirs up trouble.(m)
15 Therefore calamity will strike him suddenly;
he will be shattered instantly—beyond recovery.(n)
What the Lord Hates
16 The
Lord
hates six things;
in fact, seven are detestable to Him:
17 arrogant eyes,(o) a lying tongue,(p)
hands that shed innocent blood,(q)
18 a heart that plots wicked schemes,(r)
feet eager to run to evil,(s)
19 a lying witness who gives false testimony,(t)
and one who stirs up trouble among brothers.(u)
Warning against Adultery
20 My son, keep your father's command,
and don't reject your mother's teaching.(v)
21 Always bind them to your heart;
tie them around your neck.(w)
22 When you walk here and there, they will guide you;
when you lie down, they will watch over you;
when you wake up, they will talk to you.
23 For a command is a lamp, teaching is a light,(x)
and corrective discipline is the way to life.(y)
24 They will protect you from an evil woman,[g]
from the flattering[h] tongue of a stranger.(z)
25 Don't lust in your heart for her beauty(aa)
or let her captivate you with her eyelashes.(ab)
26 For a prostitute's fee is only a loaf of bread,[i]
but an adulteress[j] goes after a precious life.(ac)
27 Can a man embrace fire[k]
and his clothes not be burned?
28 Can a man walk on burning coals
without scorching his feet?
29 So it is with the one who sleeps with
another man's wife;
no one who touches her will go unpunished.(ad)
30 People don't despise the thief if he steals
to satisfy himself when he is hungry.(ae)
31 Still, if caught, he must pay seven times as much;(af)
he must give up all the wealth in his house.
32 The one who commits adultery[l] lacks sense;
whoever does so destroys himself.(ag)
33 He will get a beating[m] and dishonor,
and his disgrace will never be removed.
34 For jealousy enrages a husband,(ah)
and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35 He will not be appeased by anything
or be persuaded by lavish gifts.
Chapter 7
1 My son, obey my words,
and treasure my commands.(a)
2 Keep my commands and live;(b)
protect my teachings
as the pupil of your eye.(c)
3 Tie them to your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.(d)
4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister,"(e)
and call understanding your relative.
5 She will keep you from a forbidden woman,
a stranger with her flattering talk.(f)
Hebrews 11:23-40
Chapter 11
23 By faith, after Moses was born, he was hidden by his parents for three months, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they didn't fear the king's edict.(t) 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter 25 and chose to suffer with the people of God rather than to enjoy the short-lived pleasure of sin.(u) 26 For he considered the reproach because of the Messiah to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, since his attention was on the reward.(v)
27 By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king's anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees Him who is invisible.(w) 28 By faith he instituted the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch the Israelites. 29 By faith they crossed the Red Sea as though they were on dry land. When the Egyptians attempted to do this, they were drowned.(x)
30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after being encircled by the Israelites for seven days. 31 By faith Rahab the prostitute received the spies in peace and didn't perish with those who disobeyed.(y)
32 And what more can I say? Time is too short for me to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah,(z) David, Samuel, and the prophets,(aa) 33 who by faith conquered kingdoms,(ab) administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,(ac) 34 quenched the raging of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, gained strength after being weak, became mighty in battle, and put foreign armies to flight.(ad) 35 Women received their dead—they were raised to life again. Some men were tortured, not accepting release, so that they might gain a better resurrection, 36 and others experienced mockings and scourgings, as well as bonds and imprisonment.(ae) 37 They were stoned,[k](af) they were sawed in two, they died by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins,(ag) destitute, afflicted, and mistreated. 38 The world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and on mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
39 All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us.(ah)
