2 Chronicles 5:2-14
Chapter 5
2 At that time(a) Solomon assembled at Jerusalem the elders of Israel—all the tribal heads, the ancestral chiefs of the Israelites—in order to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord up from the city of David,(b) that is, Zion. 3 So all the men of Israel were assembled in the king's presence at the festival; this was in the seventh month.[a]
4 All the elders of Israel came, and the Levites picked up the ark. 5 They brought up the ark, the tent of meeting, and the holy utensils that were in the tent. The priests and the Levites brought them up. 6 King Solomon and the entire congregation of Israel who had gathered around him were in front of the ark sacrificing sheep and cattle that could not be counted or numbered because there were so many. 7 The priests brought the ark of the Lord 's covenant to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the temple, to the most holy place, beneath the wings of the cherubim.(c) 8 And the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark so that the cherubim formed a cover above the ark and its poles. 9 The poles were so long that their ends were seen from the holy place[b](d) in front of the inner sanctuary, but they were not seen from outside; they are there to this very day. 10 Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets that Moses had put in it at Horeb,[c](e) where the Lord had made a covenant with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
11 Now all the priests who were present had consecrated themselves regardless of their divisions.(f) When the priests came out of the holy place, 12 the Levitical singers dressed in fine linen and carrying cymbals, harps, and lyres(g) were standing east of the altar, and with them were 120 priests blowing trumpets.(h) The Levitical singers were descendants of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun and their sons(i) and relatives. 13 The trumpeters and singers joined together to praise and thank the Lord with one voice. They raised their voices, accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments,(j) in praise to the Lord :
For He is good;
His faithful love endures forever.(k)
The temple, the Lord 's temple, was filled with a cloud.(l) 14 And because of the cloud, the priests were not able to continue ministering, for the glory of the Lord filled God's temple.(m)
Malachi 2:10-4:7
Chapter 2
10 Don't all of us have one Father?(p) Didn't one God create us?(q) Why then do we act treacherously against one another,(r) profaning(s) the covenant of our fathers?(t) 11 Judah has acted treacherously, and a detestable(u) thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned(v) the Lord 's sanctuary,[c](w) which He loves,(x) and has married the daughter of a foreign god.[d](y) 12 To the man who does this, may the Lord cut off(z) any descendants[e][f](aa) from the tents of Jacob, even if they present an offering to the Lord of Hosts.
13 And this is another thing you do: you cover the Lord 's altar with tears, with weeping and groaning,(ab) because He no longer respects your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands.(ac)
14 Yet you ask, "For what reason?" Because the Lord has been a witness(ad) between you and the wife of your youth.(ae) You have acted treacherously against her, though she was your marriage partner(af) and your wife by covenant.(ag) 15 Didn't the one God make us with a remnant of His life-breath? And what does the One seek?[g] A godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully,[h](ah) and do not act treacherously against the wife of your youth.
16 "If he hates(ai) and divorces his wife,(aj)" says the Lord God of Israel, "he[i] covers his garment with injustice,"(ak) says the Lord of Hosts. Therefore, watch yourselves carefully,[j] and do not act treacherously.
Judgment at the Lord's Coming
17 You have wearied the Lord (al) with your words.
Yet you ask, "How have we wearied Him?"
When you say, "Everyone who does what is evil is good in the Lord 's sight, and He is pleased with them,"(am) or "Where is the God of justice?"(an)
Chapter 3
1 "See, I am going to send My messenger,(a) and he will clear the way before Me.(b) Then the Lord you seek(c) will suddenly come to His temple,(d) the Messenger of the covenant you desire—see, He is coming," says the Lord of Hosts. 2 But who can endure the day of His coming? And who will be able to stand when He appears?(e) For He will be like a refiner's fire(f) and like cleansing lye.(g) 3 He will be like a refiner and purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver.(h) Then they will present offerings to the Lord in righteousness. 4 And the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the Lord as in days of old(i) and years gone by.
5 "I will come to you in judgment, and I will be ready to witness against sorcerers and adulterers; against those who swear falsely; against those who oppress the widow and the fatherless, and cheat the wage earner; and against those who deny justice to the foreigner.(j) They do not fear Me,"(k) says the Lord of Hosts. 6 "Because I, Yahweh, have not changed,(l) you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.(m)
Robbing God
7 "Since the days of your fathers, you have turned from My statutes; you have not kept them.(n) Return to Me,(o) and I will return to you,"(p) says the Lord of Hosts.
But you ask: "How can we return?"
8 "Will a man rob(q) God? Yet you are robbing Me!"
You ask: "How do we rob You?"
"By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions.(r) 9 You are suffering under a curse, yet you—the whole nation—are still robbing Me. 10 Bring the full tenth into the storehouse(s) so that there may be food in My house.(t) Test Me in this way,"(u) says the Lord of Hosts. "See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven(v) and pour out a blessing for you without measure.(w) 11 I will rebuke the devourer[a](x) for you, so that it will not ruin the produce of your land and your vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit," says the Lord of Hosts. 12 "Then all the nations will consider you fortunate, for you will be a delightful land," says the Lord of Hosts.
The Righteous and the Wicked
13 "Your words against Me are harsh,"(y) says the Lord .
Yet you ask: "What have we spoken against You?"
14 You have said: "It is useless to serve God. What have we gained by keeping His requirements(z) and walking mournfully(aa) before the Lord of Hosts? 15 So now we consider the arrogant(ab) to be fortunate.(ac) Not only do those who commit wickedness prosper, they even test God(ad) and escape."(ae)
16 At that time those who feared the Lord spoke to one another. The Lord took notice and listened. So a book of remembrance(af) was written before Him for those who feared Yahweh and had high regard for His name. 17 "They will be Mine," says the Lord of Hosts,(ag) "a special possession on the day I am preparing. I will have compassion on them as a man has compassion on his son who serves him.(ah) 18 So you will again see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve Him.
Chapter 4
The Day of the Lord
1 [a]"For indeed, the day is coming, burning like a furnace, when all the arrogant and everyone who commits wickedness will become stubble. The coming day will consume them," says the Lord of Hosts, "not leaving them root or branches. 2 But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings,(a) and you will go out and playfully jump like calves from the stall.[b] 3 You will trample the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day I am preparing," says the Lord of Hosts.
A Final Warning
4 "Remember the instruction of Moses My servant, the statutes and ordinances I commanded him at Horeb(b) for all Israel. 5 Look, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet(c) before the great and awesome Day of the Lord comes.(d) 6 [c]And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers.(e) Otherwise, I will come and strike the land[d] with a curse."
John 8:48-59
Chapter 8
48 The Jews responded to Him, "Aren't we right in saying that You're a Samaritan(bm) and have a demon?"(bn)
49 "I do not have a demon," Jesus answered. "On the contrary, I honor My Father and you dishonor Me. 50 I do not seek My glory;(bo) the One who seeks it also judges. 51 I assure you: If anyone keeps My word,(bp) he will never see death—ever!"
52 Then the Jews said, "Now we know You have a demon. Abraham died and so did the prophets. You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste death—ever!' 53 Are You greater than our father Abraham who died? Even the prophets died. Who do You pretend to be?"[q]
54 "If I glorify Myself," Jesus answered, "My glory is nothing. My Father—you say about Him, ‘He is our God'—He is the One who glorifies Me. 55 You've never known Him, but I know Him. If I were to say I don't know Him,(bq) I would be a liar like you. But I do know Him,(br) and I keep His word. 56 Your father Abraham was overjoyed that he would see My day; he saw it(bs) and rejoiced."
57 The Jews replied, "You aren't 50 years old yet, and You've seen Abraham?"[r]
58 Jesus said to them, "I assure you: Before Abraham was, I am." [s](bt)
59 At that, they picked up stones(bu) to throw at Him.(bv) But Jesus was hidden[t](bw) and went out of the temple complex.[u](bx)
