Le chapitre 6 insiste sur la fausse confiance qui trompait les grands d’Israël. [6:2] Israël pourrait être jugé comme Calné et Hamath. [6:4-6] Ses grands s’abandonnaient au luxe, comme si tout était prospère; [6:6] ils ne sentaient pas l’affliction de Joseph; [6:7] ils seraient captifs entre les premiers. [6:8] L’Éternel livrerait Israël à la désolation; il abhorrerait la gloire de Jacob. Celui-ci se confiait en ce qui n’était que vanité, dans son veau d’or; [6:14] mais Celui qu’il méprisait susciterait un ennemi qui mettrait tout en désolation, depuis Hamath jusqu’à la frontière d’Égypte. Longtemps Dieu avait eu patience; plus d’une fois il avait été sur le point de livrer Israël au jugement.
